Along the way, Mowgli learns valuable life lessons as his epic journey of self-discovery leads to fun and adventure

….Even before I could spell my name, it was common to hear my old folks pronounce Ghana as ‘GANA’. It was no surprise when my Primary three teacher asked who could spell Ghana that I stood up confidently and spelt ‘GANA’ instead. My classmates laughed at me and I received the cane afterwards. In memory of that event, I have chosen to spell Ghana as ‘GANA’ in my title. So please let me be! LOL

Kawula to you Dear readers! If you are a sports fan and you have been on the internet, radio, television quite recently then it is no news to you that Germany thrashed our Black Queens to a record 11 goals to nil. This unfortunate event triggered a walk down memory lane to a story that I heard years ago. A patriotic story of a football match between GANA and INDIA.

The soccer world has never witnessed such a display of skills and tactics of the beautiful game. This was match that could have outmatched and outclassed the flair of both the Messis and the Ronaldos of our current generation. It is narrated that after the formation of the Black Stars of Ghana by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the National Soccer Team of India called Ghana for a friendly match at New Delhi. The BlackStars flew to India to meet the biggest surprise of their lives. The Indians brought all kinds of juju to the football field. According to some sources, Mahatma Gandhi was the captain of the Indian team.

The referee whistled and the match began. The ball was passed to Mahatma Gandhi and let out a strong shot which turned the ball into the head of a lion. Our Goalkeeper, Ali Jara dodged it was a goal. Whenever the striker of the BlackStars received the ball in the 18-yard box, it either becomes a huge python or a heavy metal and scared him away for their defenders to clear the ball. These roller ‘coasted’ for the entire first half which ended as GHANA 0 INDIA 50!

The Second half began with similar events. By the 70th minute it was India 99 Ghana 0. The Indians grew complacent and told the BlackStars that if they score just one GOAL, they will be crowned winners of the match. It was then that the coach of the BlackStars poured some libation, chanted some incantations and OKOMFO ANOKYE appeared! Okomfo Anokye commanded a pair of football boots and gloves to fall from the sky. He gave the boots to our Striker, the gloves to Keeper Ali Jara and then vanished! This was the turning point of the match.

Goalkeeper Ali Jara left the gloves at the goal post and then sat on the net to eat Kenkey with Fish. The magical gloves caught all the shots of the Indian team while he sat enjoying his Kenkey unperturbed! At the 89th minute with the score line still 99-0 in favor of the Indians, the ball was crossed to our Striker. The ball turned to a very big lion as usual. With the magical boots on his feet, He mustered all courage and chested the ball and then jumped into the air to power the ball into the back of the net with an acrobat bicycle kick. The match ended INDIA 99 GANA 1 but in a favor of the BLACKSTARS.
The President of India was impressed about their performance; as a result, he gave the striker a beautiful Indian woman to marry and a private plane to take back to Ghana. Unfortunately, HE died in a plane crash leaving Ghanaians who stood at Kotoka International Airport to welcome him in sorrow. It was then that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah proclaimed him a National Champion. A picture with his signature bicycle kick was drawn on the can of the MILO DRINK so that Ghanaians will always remember his patriotism. End of story!

I have searched YOUTUBE, GOOGLE and GOAL.COM for a footage of this magical encounter; haven’t found any evidence. In America, kids are told about Santa and his flying reindeers at the North Pole or South pole. This tale, was like the story of Santa to me. It was something to believe. Thus, I had to remember this tale after I heard that the Black Queens were also thrashed 11 goals by the Germany Women’s Team. The only difference was that it was not the tale I heard about GANA and INDIA when I was young.  It was true!

I just read an article in the graphic showbiz by Kofi Duah in which Bisa Kdie says Ghanaian music lovers should praise him for rejuvenating highlife music rather than criticize him for his bad performance because in his head, he is the best performer. Let call a spade a spade. Yes you have brought back the spark in highlife music but that does not mean your performance is good. We will praise you for the good songs and we will also criticize you for your bad performance. That is showbiz for you so deal with it.
I am so disapppointed in him because I thought he would have watch the replay of his performance and work to correct his mistakes but that is not the case. This shows how ignorant he is about the business aspect of music.

It was like they just woke him up to come and perform without prior informing him. My conclusion is that, he did not rehearse with his team before the event. The was no coordination between he, his dancers and the band. Everything was disorganized. The band was playing at a fast rate and he was struggling to be on the same tempo with them which made the performance very bad. The dancers didn't add any excitement to the performance.
Bisa I love you and your art. Your genre of music and the good songs you have churn out can give you a lot of money because the people that love this genre of music can pay up to GHc 300 just for a show. This will only happen if you work on your stage craft. Give a performance that can resurrect the dead not performance that will make people commit suicide.
In this digital world you cannot make money from the sales of CDs because people will find ways to download it for free and copy it for family and friends. "That is why I illegally downloaded your album" . This is what a fan reply to RnB singer, Bryson Tiller after he wrote "RIP to Cassius Clay". If someone should illegally download your album then what money will you be making? At the end of the day the person is going to copy it for the family and friends and the circle will continue. So basically you don't get money from the sales of album.

What fetch you money as an artiste is the shows and events that you get to perform and if your performance is wack, no serious event organiser will book you to perform at his or her show or event.
The only reason why you will get booked again to perform at any event or awards show after that disastrous performance is because we do not have many musicians in the country. If it was in the US, like you won't get to ever perform on that stage because they have 1000 artistes ready to replace you.
As an artiste, you need to understand that your talent is job and so you need to practice to perfect your skills. I remember Britney Spears had an injury during rehearsals for a show. That is how serious people out there take stage craft to the next level over there.

After Beyonce Superbowl 50\50 performance she announced her tour date and tickets price and someone twittered." how many organs do I have to sell to go to Beyonce concert". This is because the person knows he is going to get value for his money. I cannot waste money to come to a show that will lead to my early grave because that kind performance can cause someone to get a heart attack.
Bisa if you have really taken music as your career, then take some minute of your time to study about your Field. Watch and learn from the great entertainers how they are able to do it. Watch behind the scenes, how they prepare for their performance at an event. They finished performing and you can feel the goosebumps on your body.
Bisa nobody hate you, we love you. We just criticize you so you can improve upon your act.
Yours truly
Rahama

Afro pop, hiplife and hiphop artiste Shiraz Abdul Majeed best known by stage name as 'Shaker Bilz' now changed his name to 'Mista Bilz'. He has therefore urged all his fans to address him by his new stage name.

Known for his hit song, 'Sherrynina', Mista Bilz has also droped two new tunes and both fearures some of the best artist in the industry. "Benedicta" featured BBNZ Live artist, Lil Shaker and "She Wants" which also featured Luther and I bet you will love the tunes.

Mista Bilz released his second song, 'Bcos Of You' which featured 'Prada' last year and later released the visuals which was shot by Pascal Aka’s Breakthrough Studios.
The video has crisp shots; costuming is on point for the most part and the sequence of events is varied such that they keep the eye busy while the twin models used were lively and lovely.
Prada Bazino very much at ease delivers well while the silhouette scenes and yellow background go on to delight the viewer.
Based on a concept of two friends almost engaging in a fight over a pretty damsel, the day is saved when the other half of the twin shows up to allay fears and nip any violent act in the bud.

For those wondering who Mista Billz is, he is an afro pop, hiplife and hiphop artiste who has some 5 years of experience in the music industry having begun his musical journey at the University for Development Studies in 2010.
According to Mista Bilz, it was his producer friend cum mate in school who urged him on to rap by offering him varied beats to flow on since he had a studio.
Despite not being enthused in the beginning, Mista Bilz disclosed having been offered a sweet beat one fine day; he went home, wrote lyrics and recorded a tune with a friend. The University community embraced and showed love for his first tune ‘Let’s do the Dance.’
“Turned on by the support, I recoded ‘Abaa’ and offered another tune with Zugu while still in school. I also did ‘Pressure’ with Joey B at Mingle Studio, Abossey Okai” Mista Bilz stated.
But it would be ‘Sherrynina’ which made Shaker Bilz to taste fame outside of the university community as this was mainstream hit in Tamale. “When Okyeame Kwame heard it he told me he loved it as did Agbo Ayei Hughes of TV Africa” the lanky artiste recalled with a smile.
Sherrynina was a love song; the beat was on point as was the message which resonated with the people.
Featuring Article Wan, the song talks about desire for a lady and according to Bilz:“My fan base grew with this song; I got massive exposure with interviews on 4Syte TV, TV Africa, GH One, Fiesta TV and e TV.”
Shaker Bilz next major hit was with ‘Bcos of U’, another love tune which featured Ghana based Nigerian Prada Bazino for which the video is out now.
According to Shaker Bilz his dream to become a household name in the country and beyond, win awards, use music to touch lives and also make money through his music as this is his main focus now.
Managing his career through his own Bilz Music Empire initiative, Mista Bilz says he is open to offers from investors with cash and the right networks to elevate his music.
On why after his university education, he seeks to do music full time, the bachelor explained “I am using the knowledge acquired in school to direct my music affairs.”
The Tamale Kukuo bred entertainer who is now based in La, Accra mentioned Asem, Sarkodie, Samini and Stonebwoy as artistes whose work he admires adding that he shall love to collaborate with them as well as Patoranking, Mzvee, EL, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal and P-Square.
Mista Bilz has more songs to be released this year, together with some major projects which are all in the works so you all should watch out for him.

You can reach Mista Bilz on any of these social media platforms: twitter:@shakerbilz facebook: shaker bilz Instagram: shaker bilz

Assalamu Alaykum Dear Readers,

Ramadan is a blessed month that increases a Muslim’s spiritual awareness, fortifies the worshiper’s connection with Allah, reminds us of our duties towards the needy in the community, but also reminds us of our own need for an increase in faith, asking God for mercy and forgiveness.
The most obvious cornerstones of fasting that the Muslim follows during Ramadan are abstaining from food, drink, and sexual intercourse from sunrise to sunset.
However, there is far more than that to attain true fasting; the fasting that will indeed fulfill the goals of elevating us to higher levels of spirituality, compassion to others, patience, and piety.
The dos of fasting are the recommended acts, the practices that our role model, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was keen on doing during Ramadan.
Rushing to breaking the fast as soon as one is certain that sunset has commenced is recommended. When the call for Maghreb prayer is heard, break your fast on water, a few dates, or fruit juice, before praying Maghreb. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,

“People will always be in a good state [or be at ease], as long as they haste to do Iftar [breaking fast when it is time for Maghreb].

At the time when you break your fast on that first sweet date, remember to make a supplication, to ask Allah for what you desire: Paradise, forgiveness, pardon, health, and wealth. In the authentic Hadith, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,

“There are three whose dua [supplication] is never rejected: the fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just ruler, and the one who is oppressed.” (Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi)

Muslims are encouraged to eat the Sahoor or pre-dawn meal. The later in the night the better. Sahoor can be a light snack, such as a glass of milk and a few dates, a banana, or a cheese sandwich. Do eat Sahoor every night because this small meal gives the body important nourishment which will help one endure the long fast without experiencing physical weakness. The Prophet (peace be upon him)

said, “Have Sahoor for verily there is blessing in it.”

In Ramadan, choose the best deeds, the recommended acts that you may have neglected throughout the year, and spread goodness. You can gain rewards by spending more time with your parents, visiting relatives, helping anyone in need whether it is through charity or by helping take care of problems he/she may be facing. The fasting person is like a fragrant rose; his pleasantness is sensed by and extended to those around him.
Feeding others when it is time to break the fast, as Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,

“He who gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, will receive the same reward for fasting, except that nothing will be reduced from the fasting person’s reward.” (Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi)

Since the Holy Qur’an was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Ramadan, now is the perfect time to read it, understand its meanings, and memorize its verses. The Holy Qur’an is a mercy, guide, blessing, and gift from the Creator to mankind.
The companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Ibn Abbas, said,

“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was the most generous of people, and he was at his most generous during the month of Ramadan because Angel Jibril used to meet him every night in the month of Ramadan until it ended. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to review the Qur’an with Jibril; and he was more generous with good than the blowing wind.”

In addition to not eating, drinking, smoking, and having sexual relations, there are other practices, which we should not be doing during this blessed month.
Avoid blood cupping, blood withdrawal, and using ear drops or inhalers while fasting.
Some scholars are of the opinion that, ideally, you should use siwak or a toothbrush and water for cleaning teeth, rather than toothpaste.
Do not listen to music because your heart should be occupied with supplication, remembrance of Allah, and the Holy Qur’an, not with songs.
Do not waste your time. The days and nights of Ramadan are too precious to be wasted away watching TV, going on shopping sprees, oversleeping, and cooking extravagant feasts.
Do not engage in idle talk, gossip, lying, quarreling, cursing, or any form of speech that is unnecessary and has no benefit, especially if it is hurtful to someone else. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, Allah has no need of him giving up his food and drink.” (Al-Bukhari)

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said,

“The true fast is not to merely abstain from food and drink, rather true fast is to abstain from futile activities and obscene talk.”
Stressing the importance of a refined and gracious code of conduct, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,

“When one of you is fasting, make sure not to use obscene language and not to be foolish and irresponsible in your speech. And if someone provokes you, have control over yourself and say, ‘I am fasting’.”

This Ramadan, make it a true fast, a fast from all that will interfere with your spiritual growth. May Allah bless us abundantly in this holy month!
Assalamu Alaykum Warahmatullahi ta'alaa wa barakatuhu.

Assalamu Alaykum Dear Readers, Today I share with you a wonderful article on healthy leaving in Ramadan. Enjoy!

Each year, many Muslims aim to use the month of Ramadan for a variety of self-reforming habits, including spiritual, mental, and physical changes. Fasting clearly places an emphasis on spiritual reform by gaining mastery over natural appetites. But some people also see it as an opportunity to stop smoking, overeating, and starting exercise regimes.

When fasting in summer, the stresses on the body are more extreme. There is less time for eating, praying, and sleeping in the night hours, and completing required tasks during the day can be more difficult due to heat and extended hours without sustenance. Unfortunately, many Muslims abuse their bodies in the month of Ramadan by eating unhealthy foods and overeating and/or by abandoning all exercise due to fasting and time constraints. In addition to getting less sleep, this leads to weight gain, muscle loss, illness, and lack of energy.

Nevertheless, with careful planning, it is possible to start, maintain, or improve eating and workout habits during the month of Ramadan. A plan should incorporate both exercise and nutrition. First of all, one needs to have a proper frame of mind that food is for energy first, and we should choose what we eat to provide our body with what it needs for energy. There are definitely social and pleasure aspects to eating that we also need to accommodate, but these should not be allowed to override all consideration of healthy eating. Exercise in the month of Ramadan should include strength training to help minimize muscle loss due to fasting. This applies to men and women of all ages, as strength training helps maintain or improve bone density, increases metabolism, improves body shape and posture, and may reduce depression symptoms. Aerobic or cardio exercise is necessary for health of the circulatory system and burning excess calories.

One good method for planning your eating and fitness regime for the upcoming month of Ramadan is to use or adapt an existing program. One program designed particularly for use in the month of Ramadan, although it can also be used at any time, is Fit4Ramadan (http://www.fit4ramadan.com). This program is detailed in an 80 page manual (a pdf e-book download available for purchase at a reasonable price) that provides everything from a strength training workout plan, complete with pictures, that does not require a lot of special gym equipment, to a detailed daily meal plan and even a grocery shopping list. This list will not include samosas, but there is information on how to allow a limited amount of the special and rather unhealthy foods you may desire during the month. It provides quality information on what is healthy to eat and what a good meal for Suhoor and Iftar ought to consist of. If you are already a fitness guru, you will not find a lot of new information in the Fit4Ramadan program, but it does provide a logical, doable program for a variety of fitness levels. If you want a ready-to-go program so that you do not have to reinvent the wheel, then this is a sound option.

A very much less-detailed but similar plan was written by Rehan Jalali, C.S.N.

"There are a few minor differences of opinion between the two programs on matters such as caffeine and timing of workouts, but the general nutrition and exercise advice are quite alike. Both recommend consuming a daily multivitamin especially during the month of Ramadan, and both recommend that workouts take place before Suhoor or after Iftar, and not during the fasting day. Cardio exercise may be best done before Suhoor, while strength training may be good either before Suhoor or after Iftar. Both suggest nutrition shakes as a reasonable option for Suhoor.
Neither discuss enough around getting proper sleep. Sleep deprivation is likely in the month of Ramadan, but it is still necessary to try to make allotments of time for sleep in order to maintain health, avoid weight gain, and maintain ability to perform required daily tasks while fasting. In the month of Ramadan, this may best be accomplished through a nap before Maghrib whenever possible. Doing most meal preparation one day a week on a weekend day, simplifying meals, and limiting unnecessary extra work and tasks for this month may help make this possible.
A third option is to adapt your existing fitness regime or, if just starting, to adapt one that may not be specifically for the month of Ramadan. If you are an avid exerciser, particularly if you are a cardio-fanatic, you may want to scale back the intensity of workouts and focus on maintenance while fasting. But it is not necessary or healthy to avoid exercise during the month – the regular guidelines in terms of time for exercise still apply (such as the oft-recited 30 minutes a day for all adults). One example of an easy-to-adapt realistic program is the 10-Minute Total Body Breakthrough by Sean Foy. It is an extremely reasonable, adaptable, well-researched program that can easily be incorporated into your routine during the month of Ramadan. It discusses nutrition, but its focus is on a variety of simple, adaptable workouts that provide strength training and cardio benefits in a short amount of time. These workouts could easily be accomplished prior to Fajr prayer without having to drastically reduce sleep time. One could also adopt a walking routine with a bit of strength training on alternate days, or adapt an exercise video or book one already has or that is readily available on the Internet. One of the best Internet resources for fitness is Sparkpeople. It is an excellent free community resource where you can find workouts, nutrition information, moral support, and track your food and fitness. A well-researched, non-fad, quality nutrition program like Weight Watchers can also be started or maintained during the month of Ramadan to help you make proper eating choices and avoid weight gain."

Some people see the month of Ramadan as an opportunity to turn over a new leaf, but starting a whole new program during a summer fast can be intimidating and unrealistic. It is a common saying that it takes 40 days for a new habit to be created or a bad one to be destroyed, and the month of Ramadan, which already requires change, may be a good beginning for many. Even if you are not interesting in making big changes in the month of Ramadan, everyone should want to avoid abusing their body in this month and gaining weight, and some will want to make fitness and nutrition gains. These goals can only be accomplished through planning. The above options provide tools for that planning so that you can have your healthiest month of Ramadan yet, which should also make it easier for you to achieve your spiritual goals during this blessed month.

May Allah make it easier for all of us! Assalamu Alaykum

“I am now born again” She spoke firmly.

I laughed teasingly at her and she repeated her statements again. She was more firm than before that I partly believed her. When she noticed the change in my demeanor, she dropped the bombshell. I could not believe the tale I was hearing! I never thought….

My mouth was wide agape when she finished her tale. I sat there trembling like a leaf. Yvonne noticed the fear in my eyes and drew closer to console me but I shrank from her. I don’t know what happened next but I found myself jogging, picking up the pace and finally running to Navoro Hall. As I ran Yvonne’s disclosure played in my mind like last week’s El Classico.

It all happened two weeks after school resumed. Mr. Daniel had spotted Amanda at Mayaga Annex Cafeteria drinking coke. She got interested in him from that moment. He tried everything possible for everything for Amanda to sleep with her but to no avail. He even threatened to get destroy her grades and get her expelled from the school but she wouldn’t budge. Then on one fateful day, he saw Amanda and I kissing near Navoro Hall. It was then He changed his tactics. He told her that if She doesn’t sleep with him, He would crumble my GPA and get me expelled from the school. Amanda knew the situation back at my home. She knew it would break my poor parents heart if I got expelled. She then agreed unwillingly to sleep with Mr. Daniel for my sake. Yvonne told me it was Mr. Daniel’s idea that it should happen at Navoro Hall since no one would suspect. Despite all those façades they put up they never expected I’d show up at Navoro Hall without informing Amanda. It was ill fate that I saw her with him that night. Since then She had been trying to get to me explain what she had done, hoping that I might I understand. And moreover, she knew about the affair between Yvonne and I for quite some time but swallowed all the pain, hoping and praying that I’d change. Yvonne explained that She disclosed this to her after She came to seeking for her forgiveness when she had repented and chosen the path to righteousness and light.

“Elorm, she needs you”

Yvonne’s final words reverberated in my ears as I climbed those familiar stairs of Navoro hall to Amanda’s room. I opened the door forcibly, panting as I observed that all her belongings where packed neatly at a corner. I saw a piece of paper with my name written on it. I took the paper with faltered hands. The message was the shortest and heat breaking message I have ever read.

It read “ELORM, IT HURTS THAT YOU SEEM ME AS TRASH WHEN ALL I HAVE DONE IS FOR YOUR SAKE. IT HURTS THAT I STILL LOVE YOU DESPITE ALL THIS. I CAN’T TAKE IT LONGER. I CAN’T HAVE YOU SO NEAR WHEN I CANNOT HAVE YOU BY MY SIDE. IT HURTS TO SAY GOODBYE. IT HURTS SO BAD!”

A stream of tears flowed down my cheek as I read the message. My heart ached like a needle had pierced it. I dropped the paper and sped out of the room again and down the stairs. I think I might had pushed the security man down on my way down but I didn’t care. I knew what I had read and I knew what it meant.

I ran to Poyongo, a dam just behind the Navoro Hall. The moon was full and bright as I stood there staring into the dam frightened as to what I might discover. My eyes fell on a pink dress at the middle of the dam. I jumped into the water and swam to the body and pulled her out. My heart skipped a beat when I saw her that her face was almost stoned cold. I began CPR. I did it for almost 2 minutes but there was no response. I couldn’t call for help and I didn’t know what to do. I began hitting her chest with all my strength sobbing, crying and saying “Please, don’t leave me. Don’t die. I’m sorry Amanda. I love you”. Yet She didn’t respond. I became motionless like a mannequin at the thought of what happened. I stared blankly at the reflection of the moon in the water like I was seeing the moon for the first time. I was lost in myself when I heard a cough and then a second and then a third. She coughed the water out and opened her eyes.

“You came?” She mumbled.

I was too shocked to say a word. All my words fell as tears from my cheeks on to her face. She forced a smile and whispered “Elorm, take me home”.

I carried her like a trophy towards Navoro Hall. My mind raced through all the bad things that I said to her. All my stupid actions. I was the one who began THE CHEATING GAME, yet called her a whore. I was the cheat, the whore and an insensitive bitch in one package.

What kind of woman will sacrifice her pride for the sake of love? What kind of woman will give a cheat like me a second chance?

I didn’t need to look anywhere else for an answer. I held the answer in my arms. Amanda was the angel of my life. Let Amanda end my story.

I could not bring myself to forgive Amanda. This might had been hypocritical because I also cheated but I could not overlook hers. I really tried but anytime I closed my eyes all I could see was what I saw that night. The pain was unbearable for me because I still couldn’t get pass the undeniable fact that I STILL LOVED AMANDA!
Nonetheless, I vowed to erase all these feelings from deepest doldrums of my heart. If Amnesia was a drug would’ve gladly taken a pill. Who wouldn’t?
Well, I still had a second resort and her name was Yvonne. This time there was no guilt about it. We did all sort of stuff that I needn’t write on paper. Being with her was my “amnesia” to forgetting Amanda and seemed to be working or rather not. However, this 50 shades of Yvonne continued for two months till our story became really twisted.
In all those two months I met Amanda once. It happened at “kokotu” as I bought 50 pesewas of koko and 50 pesewas of koose. This was a norm for most of the guys because it was the time The Hunger Games set in and even gari was worth than Gold. I cleared all the koko and the koose, drank a sachet of Denitius Mineral Water and took off. I was just about to pass through that small hole at King Wordi’s internet café when I felt sharp pierce. I dreaded what I will see but I still returned the gaze. There She was, seated at the Internet Café staring silently at me. Her eyes were sullen and seemed to have lost that spark. Her fair skin was darkened a little and her she had lost a couple of pounds. I was shocked to the spine. I wanted to go over there and hug as tightly as I could and never let go. I wanted to kiss her and tell her everything will be alright. But I couldn’t. Another glance at her recapitulated those bad memories I wanted to forget.
“Bitch!”
I shouted angrily at her and left. She didn’t say it anything. I could still feel the pierce of her stare as I hurried to attend my lecture at NH2. Coincidentally it was Mr. Daniel’s class. I hated that man like I have never hated anyone before. I always attended and sat at the front seat so that I could stare angrily at this disgusting man. I wanted him to know that I hated him since there was almost nothing I could do about it because lecturers were untouchable on campus. Besides, many of the lecturers were rumored to be involved romantically with most of the girls on campus. I couldn’t risk being sacked. So all I could do was stare at him angrily and sing the chorus of Big Sean’s “I don’t f*ck with you” in my head. Surprisingly, this man never cared. He carried on lectures without even a mistaken glance at me and this angered me more. Yet, what could I have done? And besides it was all Amanda’s fault. She broke my heart and not him.
That was two months ago. Everything went on normal with no encounter with Amanda and so many encounters with Yvonne. She never cared about Caleb G Special pizza nor O.J Fried rice neither did she cared about me requesting songs for her on LOVE 101 every Wednesday on RADIO FAS. It was always the walking the talk kind of relationship.
“I can’t come today. I would be going for church”
I called Yvonne one Sunday morning and that was the response She gave me. I laughed at her and told her she is kidding and I know she would be here in half an hour. She told me She’s serious and hanged up. I laughed the joke off and waited. I waited the entire the day but she never came. A similar succession of events happened the next day. On a third day, I heard my phone buzzing and it was her calling. I laughed and picked the call.
“I knew you can’t resist it” I spoke first.
She ignored the comment and stated seriously that she wants to speak with me and that I should kindly meet her on campus. I took a packet of kiss condoms and left. I got to campus and found Yvonne seated on the love bench opposite the Spanish lab. As I got closer, I was taken aback as to what I saw. Yvonne was cloaked in a very long and loose skirt and blouse. She even had a headgear on like those “Osofo mamis” in Nigerian Movies’.
“Praise the lord, Hallelujah” I teased her as I sat on the bench next to her. I tried to kiss her and she pushed me off. I told her to stop tripping and let us get home and get banging.
“I am now born again” She spoke firmly.
I laughed at teasingly her and she repeated her statements again. She was more firm than before that I partly believed her. When she noticed the change in my demeanor, she dropped the bombshell. I could not believe the tale I was hearing! I never thought….

I had walked a few meters when my self creeped slowly into me. Slowly, I could feel the breeze. Slowly, I felt oxygen in my nostrils. Slowly but painfully, the images of moments ago became vivid like last week’s episode of Empire. Slowly but surely, I realized what I saw.
I saw Amanda having sex with Mr. Daniel, my lecturer at Navoro Hall!

I was heartbroken. How could she do this to me? Those questions raced through my thoughts as I raced to Ashland. Within a few minutes, I was at my door sweating like I just finished a 100-meter race. I had just dropped like a log on my mattress when my phone began ringing incessantly. More awkwardly, the tone been played was Chris Brown and Tyga’s “Loyal”. She called about ten times but I refused to answer. What explanation did she have to give? That She was forced by the lecturer? At Navro Hall?

I finally switched off my phone, cursed all girls in the entire world and tried so hard to sleep. Well, not so hard because I found myself lying on the floor the next morning. The first thing which hit me was those grotesque images from last night. I put on my phone and voila it started ringing again. Amanda was still calling. This time around, I answered.

“Don’t ever call me again, bitch!”

I never gave her the chance to say a word and then I ended the call. I felt a darkness hovering around me but I didn’t care. I called Yvonne to come over and she was there within half an hour. We had sex for almost two hours. I had begun wearing my boxers when I felt a cold touch on my PhD.

“One more round, Please?” Yvonne whispered.

What the hell? Who the f**k does this girl think I am? King of Porno or what?

I took a swipe at her and she giggled, got dressed and gave me the “call me sign” and left. The rest of the day went on without any drama except for the calls of Amanda which had become a norm. It was around 7.15 pm when I rushed to Davi to get two balls of Kenkey when I had that inevitable confrontation with Amanda.

The queue was long as usual as many boys crowded around Davi to get a bite of her Kenkey. I was trying so hard to chew some of the Kenkey when a familiar voiced called my name.

“Elorm”

I turned and it was Amanda. I was not surprised She found me here because that was my joint almost every night. Mostly, I do come there with her. We usually ate together as boys stared as like we were naked. I pretended like I didn’t notice her and resumed my tactics to catch Davi’s attention. She called my name again. It was then that Rash Lala, my course mate drew my attention that my girlfriend was calling me. I got peeved at the word girlfriend and went on a rampage.

“You call this whore my girlfriend?” pointing at her. The entire place became quite like a grave yard, boosting my anger at her.

“I don’t go with bitches who sleep with Lecturers for grades” Those last words stung her like a bee. She murmured something inaudible and a tear fell from her eyes. A single man tear She shed and disappeared slowly into the darkness towards Navoro Hall.

The boys resumed their normal bickering and hustling like nothing had happened. In a moment, I nearly felt bad for what I did but I refused to be sucked in. She deserved it. I reassured myself and shouted Davi, I came before him!
to be continued...

I pondered and lingered over those thoughts without any apparent answer. But I arrived at a conviction. I must end my affairs with Yvonne and confess to Amanda tomorrow!

That was my plan. Unfortunately, my plan was too naïve, void and too static to deal with the events which were to begin to unfold the next day. Those events which altered, distorted and disoriented me from myself. Changed everything.

Who knew?

Who could have guessed?

“Auntie Muni Waakye! Auntie Muni Waakye!! Auntie Muni Waakye!!!”

A familiar voice screamed in my brain as I observed the most boring lecture ever. I tried so hard to concentrate but the voice screamed louder. It was the persistent voice of hunger.  I checked my watched and nearly fainted. We still got 20 minutes left! I stared blankly at the lecturer as he continued to lecture who knows what. What seemed to be an eternity finally came to an end.

“Any question before we close?”

The class was dead silent. Surely, everyone must have got that hunger vibe stirring in their tummy. Then within a twinkle of an eye, Mathew stood up asking a question. Wallahi!  Like seriously? All the faces in the class were annoyed staring angrily and silently in silent anger at Mathew. At that moment, we all forgot he was the chief source of “dubbing” during assignments and mid trims. It took another five minutes for the lecturer to answer his question.

“Any further questions?”

“No sir!” We shouted in chorus this time around and brought the lecture to its fate.

I must have beaten Barry Allen as the fastest man alive on my way to Auntie Muni only to be met by a queue as long as Agbo’s shoe. I had to wait because the only food I could cook was indomie, rice and spaghetti with shito. Everything was eaten with shito by almost all the guys on campus and I was no exception to that reality. “Gobe” was a favorite too but that one will take centuries to cook. I thought of giving Amanda a call but I dismissed the idea. Finally, it got to my turn and I bought, ate and left to Ashland, my hostel.

Everything went on smoothly for the entire day. Finally, the sun went on a short holiday and it was night. It was time for me to confess to Amanda. It was time for me tell her everything! I quickly rehearsed some few apologetic sentences behind the mirror and left. I am no Devil as you think so I prayed heavily as I walked towards Navoro Hall.

As I approached the Hall, I remembered that I forgot to tell her I was coming over. Actually, I hadn’t spoken nor seen her the entire day. I dialed her number but it was switched off. When I think about that ill-fated evening, I know I should have turned back when her phone was off but I didn’t. I think it was fate and I was supposed to be there and nothing could’ve been done to change it.

I climbed the stairs and went straight to her door. It was unlocked. I saw Yvonne earlier at Choir practice at the SRC pavilion on my way. So I knew Amanda was alone. I knocked a couple of times and there was no answer. Then I remembered, she could be listening to music with earphones. I opened the door and went straight in.

The lights were still on. I heard soft moans and thought she was watching a movie. As I drew closer, the moans became too loud and too familiar. There was a curtain dividing the room so I couldn’t see the other side. I dreaded what I will see but by impulse I shoved the curtain.

I shoved the curtain and then everything went blank. I was too shocked to process my sense of vision. I thought it was a dream. No. I thought it was a nightmare! I heard someone say something but I didn’t know what. I dazed out of the room in a trance. I went straight into the Ladies Bathroom thinking it was the stairs. Someone screamed and I felt a hard slap on my cheeks. The slap didn’t wake me up from my disillusion but thanks to the slap I found the stairs out of Navoro Hall or more appropriately, out of Hell.
